Latch Lake began with a friend helping a friend. In the late 1980’s, guitarist Leo Kottke found that he could no longer get the French wine bottles from which he'd been making his guitar slides. It was only a matter of time until his last glass slide broke. He turned to his long time friend (and former touring sound engineer) Jeff Roberts for help.

Royer Labs was formed in 1998 to bring David Royer's unique, modern ribbon microphone designs to the world. When we first opened our doors, ribbon mics had been largely forgotten, but the R-121 and SF-12 quickly captured the imagination of recording enthusiasts around the world. This new generation of ribbon microphones proved to be a perfect match to the rise in popularity of digital recording, as engineers rediscovered their warmth, analog feel and smooth sound. Today, Royers are found in studios and on live stages around the world.

Avant Electronics is a creative vehicle, enabling our core team to bring to market the things we see as missing in the industry…. This can be as simple as a certain price point we feel should be met to give excellent quality for reasonable pricing. At other times, it may be an item that simply does not exist until we build it. We design from the heart and look for niche items to create. We don’t use the shotgun approach in creating a product line.
AnaMod was founded in 2006 by two industry veterans, Dave Amels (Bomb Factory, Voce), and Greg Gualtieri (Pendulum Audio). Its mission: to design, manufacture, and market audio equipment based on an entirely new concept. The same patented mathematical modeling procedures used by Dave Amels to create digital plugins for Bomb Factory have been applied to the creation of AnaMod's analog products. Analog audio products designed by this method use the AnaMod process in their creation, are entirely analog, and do not process audio in the digital domain.

Purple Audio was started by Andrew Roberts in 1997 to manufacture new product.
Andrew came to New York 1994 to attend the NYU music technology program. Soon after coming to New York Andrew became involved in buying and selling recording equipment and began doing repairs and wiring work in his dorm room. In the fall of 1996, Andrew met John Klett and was invited to join a new repair shop in midtown Manhattan. This shop, dubbed Tech Mecca, was the new location for Manhattan Audio, a large repair facility and wiring company and Klett's new midtown home. Andrew began to repair high end gear there and became an apprentice to Klett. By the fall of 1997 Purple had introduced the MC76. Soon after Purple Audio's inaugural AES show Purple needed more space, so Andrew moved to a loft in Long Island City, Queens. This large space provided overflow space for Tech Mecca's large projects. ![]()
Avedis Audio Electronics designs and manufactures professional audio and recording equipment. The small enterprise started as a venture designated to the repair and modification of high-end American and English outboard and modular gear for professional sound studios. The growing need for specialists with the advanced knowledge to repair and modify older analog equipment quickly led to products of it's own with a good foundation in discrete analog transformer-coupled designs, starting with the flagship product, the 1122 operational amplifier. New products will emerge as we find the needs of audio engineers.

We Live, sleep, dream and breath audio and the engineering that refines detail to an obsessive edge. The PEQ1 series was born when we began to ask, "If price and market were no object, what is the absolute best mic-pre/equalizer we're capable of producing?" What we came up with is probable overkill for 98 percent of the engineers in the world, but if you are part of the small demanding group of people that are as passionate and curious about pursuing the ridiculous best as we are, have we got the gear for you.
